Scoop Austin Ice Cream Festival 2014 – Austin, TX
On Saturday, August 9th, the 8th Scoop Austin Ice Cream Festival 2014 comes to the Fiesta Gardens for another great year. Bring your friends, family, and your dog to the sweet festival for tons of games, activities, contests, and even live entertainment. And of course, you have to swing by the ice cream truck.
Highlights of the Event
The festival – sponsored by One Source Recycling – has benefitted many local charities and organizations such as the Austin Children’s Shelter, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Habibis Hutch, and several others.
One of the many highlights of the festival includes the Homemade Ice Cream Making Contest. If you think you’ve got the best homemade ice cream in town, bring your creation to the festival and compete against others for the sweetest contest in Austin. For the first time in its eight-year run, the festival will allow contestants to pre-make their ice cream! Cost is twenty dollars per entry.
Another crowd favorite is the Popsicle Stick Sculpture Contest. Make anything you want out of Popsicle sticks, but no pre-notched sticks allowed! You can build your creation at home and bring it to the festival or create it at the event, as long as you get creative and have a blast while you’re doing it. Adhesives and decorations are allowed, but the primary building material has to be Popsicle sticks. All ages are welcome and the contest is free for everyone.
If you’re an eater rather than a creator, you can enter the Ice Cream Eating Contest, one of the best at the Ice Cream Festival. See how fast you can eat a gallon of ice cream. Joey Chestnut the World Champion Eater and Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Champ has taken home one of the festival’s spoons from the contest. Get your brain freeze on for ten dollars per entry. You can register at the contest table.
If you’re not sure what to bring with you to the contest, check out the following list. Blankets, folding lawn chairs, small umbrellas, cameras, and leashed pets are permitted. Bicycles are also allowed, but must be secured to the outside fence at the rider’s own risk. Weapons are prohibited, as well as food and drink (which will be served at the festival), though food and drink for a baby in attendance is allowed.
Perfect Reasons Why You Should Come on Out & Enjoy It!
Country Fair Catering, Cristi’Ali Cuisine, and the Old West Soda Company will be on hand as the festival’s food vendors. Ice cream and frozen treat vendors include Amy’s Ice Creams, Austin Scoops, Blue Bell, Coolhaus, GoodPops, Ice Cream Social, NadaMoo, Rita’s Water Ice, The Melting Cone, Weezie’s Frozen Custard, and Yeti Frozen Custard.
The 8th Scoop Austin Ice Cream Festival will be held on Saturday, August 9th from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. There’s a ten dollar entry fee (with free ice cream), but children aged 8 and under are admitted into the festival for free.
